Family counselling in psychology aims to enhance communication, resolve conflicts, and build stronger relationships within families. It addresses challenges like parenting, marital issues, behavioural problems, and emotional distress.
Psychological assessment is a process used to evaluate an individual’s mental health, cognitive, and emotional functioning. It involves interviews, questionnaires, and standardised tests to gather information about a person’s thoughts, behaviours, and feelings. The results can be used to identify psychological conditions, guide treatment options, and support personal development. Psychological assessments provide insights that contribute to understanding an individual’s psychological profile.

Bruno’s Story:
BlackBelt Rehab grew from two worlds coming together: high-level sport and life on the mats.
Over more than two decades as a physiotherapist, our work has spanned high performing clinical settings in Brazil, Olympic and Commonwealth Games environments, and years supporting combat sports athletes on competition floors. Along the way came advanced training in trauma, orthopaedics, and sports physiotherapy, shaping an approach that values structure, progression, and long-term results.
But this clinic was not built from textbooks or clinics alone. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has been part of life since the early 1990s, first in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, and later in Australia. Like many practitioners, the journey has not been linear, interrupted by injuries, surgeries, time away from the mats for life reasons, and the challenges of returning again and again. Those experiences matter and helped shapping our practice.
Having lived through multiple injuries and surgeries, we understand what it feels like to lose momentum, identity, and confidence, and how important the right support is when rebuilding. Jiu-jitsu is seen not just as a sport, but as a way of life: a teacher of discipline, resilience, humility, and connection.
That blend of clinical experience and lived understanding is what defines BlackBelt Rehab and how we care for the jiu-jitsu community and anyone who wants to move pain-free, train, and live better.
Whether you’re dealing with acute injury, chronic pain, or sports-related issues, he has the expertise to help you recover and perform.
-
Knee Pain
Whether due to ligament strains, meniscus issues, or patellofemoral pain, we identify the source and create a personalised plan to restore mobility and strength. -
Jumper’s Knee (Patella Tendinopathy)
Pain at the front of the knee below the kneecap. We use progressive loading, manual therapy, tapping, and dry needling for full recovery. -
Back Pain
From spinal stiffness to disc injuries and muscle imbalance. We assess movement patterns and build resilience to prevent recurrence. -
Neck Pain
Posture, joint dysfunction, disc injuries or trauma. We offer manual therapy, spinal mobilisation, dry needling, and targeted exercises. -
Headaches & Migraines
Many headaches stem from neck dysfunction or muscle tightness. We use hands-on techniques and posture correction to reduce frequency and intensity. -
Shoulder Pain
Common in tradies, grapplers and overhead athletes. We assess stability, mobility, and rotator cuff function to guide rehab. -
Rotator Cuff Injuries
Strains and tears from overuse, contact and overhead sports. We combine manual therapy, strengthening, and mobility work for recovery. -
Hip Pain
From joint impingements to labral tears and bursitis. We assess hip function and core stability for targeted rehab. -
Sciatica
Shooting pain down the leg from sciatic nerve irritation. We use hands-on therapy and neural mobility techniques. -
Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondilitis)
Inflammation from gripping or repetitive movements. We use soft tissue release, tendon loading, dry needling, and shockwave therapy. -
Achilles Tendinopathy
Pain from running or explosive movements. We use graded loading, manual therapy, and shockwave therapy for tendon health. -
Plantar Fasciitis
Sharp heel pain, especially in the morning. We treat with shockwave therapy, soft tissue release, strengthening, and strapping.
Sports Physiotherapy
We specialise in treating athletes of all levels, with a focus on BJJ. Includes injury assessment, treatment planning, hands-on therapy, exercise prescription, and return-to-sport guidance.
Post Surgical Rehabilitation
Structured, evidence-based rehab for orthopaedic surgery recovery. From rotator cuff repairs to knee reconstructions and spinal procedures.
He combines hands-on therapy with cutting-edge technology to deliver results that last.
-
Shockwave Therapy
Non-invasive treatment that uses targeted sound waves to support tissue healing and reduce persistent pain. It is often used alongside exercise-based rehabilitation for tendon and soft tissue injuries. -
Spinal Manipulation
Controlled thrust technique to improve spinal mobility and relieve pain. Helps restore joint function and reduce muscle guarding. -
Joint Mobilisation
Gentle, repetitive movements to restore range of motion and reduce stiffness. Often used alongside other treatments. -
Dry Needling
Fine needles inserted into tight muscles to promote release, increase blood flow, and reduce pain. Effective for trigger points and chronic tension. -
Muscle Strength Testing & Movement Analysis (AxIT)
Objective assessment using the AxIT system to identify asymmetries and deficits compared to normative data for your demographics. -
Myofascial Release
Targets the fascia—connective tissue surrounding muscles. Reduces tension, restores movement, and improves flexibility.
- Thorough Assessment
We conduct a comprehensive evaluation including movement analysis, special testing, and injury history to understand your unique situation. - Personalised Plan
Based on your assessment, we create a tailored treatment and rehabilitation plan aligned with your specific goals and lifestyle. - Treatment Delivery
We apply hands-on techniques, targeted exercises, and advanced therapies based on your needs, preferences, and best clinical evidence. - Progress Tracking & Adjusting
We monitor your progress regularly and adjust your plan as needed to ensure optimal results and long-term success.
AxIT Strength & Movement Testing
Precision muscle assessment and performance analysis using objective, evidence-based testing. Identify asymmetries, track progress, and optimise your return to sport.
-
AxIT is an objective testing system used to measure muscle strength, power, and movement performance.
-
It provides accurate data instead of guesswork, helping physiotherapists assess injuries and movement limitations.
-
The system measures strength, force production, and movement patterns across different muscles and joints.
-
It can identify weaknesses, asymmetries, and imbalances that may contribute to pain or injury.
-
Results are compared with reference data to understand how your strength compares to expected levels.
-
Data is stored and used to track progress throughout rehabilitation or training.
-
Testing can guide personalised treatment and exercise programs based on measurable deficits.
-
It helps determine readiness to return to sport or training safely.
-
The technology can measure performance in common movements such as squats, jumps, lunges, and push-ups.
Overall goal: improve rehab outcomes, reduce injury risk, and optimise performance through data-driven assessment.
Shockwave Therapy
Advanced, non-invasive treatment that harnesses acoustic waves to accelerate healing and eliminate chronic pain without surgery or injections.
-
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses targeted sound waves to stimulate healing in injured tissues.
-
It helps reduce persistent pain and support tissue repair, particularly in tendons and soft tissue injuries.
-
The treatment works by stimulating blood flow, breaking down damaged tissue, and promoting the body’s natural healing processes.
-
It is commonly used for chronic or stubborn injuries that haven’t improved with standard physiotherapy alone.
-
Conditions often treated include:
-
Plantar fasciitis
-
Achilles tendinopathy
-
Patellar tendinopathy (jumper’s knee)
-
Tennis elbow
-
Rotator cuff tendon pain
-
-
Treatment typically involves short sessions using a handheld device that delivers pulses to the injured area.
-
Shockwave therapy is usually combined with exercise-based rehabilitation for the best results.
-
Benefits can include:
-
Reduced pain
-
Improved tendon healing
-
Better mobility and function
-
Faster return to activity or sport.
